Panmure
This 18 hole Course has a traditional
layout with 12 varying par 4 holes, 2 par 5 holes
and 4 par 3 holes offering different challenges
at each. Visitors should not be deceived by its
length of 6,317 yards. The course occupies only
115 acres, most of which is rough, whins or trees.
There are 83 bunkers, 81 of them being spread
between 15 holes. The course has been modified
and lengthened over the years, several of the
holes according to suggestions proposed by James
Braid in 1922. The last major change was to re-site
the 14th green, producing a far more interesting
and challenging hole. Although not exceptionally
long by today's standards, Panmure requires accurate
driving and iron play. In addition the greens
are generally small with subtle borrows developed
over more than 100 years of play.
The
testing layout has fully merited its roll-call
of championships.
In particular it has hosted the following events:
* The first Scottish Professional Championship
in 1907
* The British Seniors' Amateur Championship in
1977 & 1986
* The Scottish Strokeplay in 1997
* The Qualifying Round of the Amateur Championship
in 1992
* Open Qualifying in 1931 and Final Qualifying
in 1968, 1975 & 1999 (for Carnoustie) &
1970, 1990 (for St Andrews)
* Scotland versus Italy International Match in
2000
* British Boys Plate Competition in 2002
