Blairgowrie

Blairgowrie has two championship 18 hole courses. Rosemount, designed by James Braid and Lansdowne, built in the 1970's, designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas. In recent years both championship courses - Rosemount and Lansdowne have hosted many national events, most notably the British Seniors Amateur Stroke Play Championship twice and the British Boys Home Internationals, both run by the Royal & Ancient. The Scottish Amateur 72 hole stroke play event has been played on a number of occasions as has the Scottish Mid Amateur championship.

Greg Norman won his first European Tour event in 1977 the Martini tournament held on the Rosemount course. The British Youths was also held on the Rosemount course at Blairgowrie in 1984, preceded by the GB & Ireland match against Continental Europe. As you will see from the referenced match cards, some illustrious names appeared in the event including Colin Montgomerie and Jose Maria Olazabal.

Golfing legend Gary Player was guest of honour at the Club’s centenary celebrations in 1989, and to commemorate the occasion and in recognition of his magnificent contribution to the world of golf, club Captain Bill Christie and Vice Captain Tom Watson presented Gary with Honorary Membership of the Club.

The Courses

The courses of The Blairgowrie Golf Club are virtually unique and have that wonderful charm found at very few courses where each hole is unaffected and untouched by another. The combination of Heathland and Woodland provides each hole with a peace and tranquillity completely unspoilt by preceding or following games.
The pine, silver birch and heather lined fairways provide a natural habitat to be enjoyed not just by the golfers, but shared with the exquisite wildlife, which includes deer and red squirrels, woodpeckers and oyster catchers to name but a few.

Rosemount Course

Described by Tom Morris as, “The most beautiful inland green I have ever seen”, the Rosemount course certainly lives up to its reputation. Designed by James Braid with influences from Dr. Alistair McKenzie, the renowned architect of the Augusta National course, Rosemount has played host to a number of prestigious professional and amateur tournaments. It was the scene of Greg Norman’s first European Tour victory in the 1977 Martini event. Rosemount was voted 11th best course to play in Scotland by the readers of Scotland’s premier golf magazine.

Lansdowne

The Lansdowne course is more modern than the Rosemount course in layout, and offers a more challenging test. It was designed by the respected partnership of Peter Allis and Dave Thomas and was officially opened in 1979. Also set in avenues of pine and silver birch, most fairways are lined with heather, and the course provides a challenging but pleasurable test for all levels of golfer.

Wee Course. The Wee Course formed part of the original layout designed by Dr. Alistair McKenzie of Augusta National and Cypress Point fame. The nine hole layout is heathland in character comprising 4 par 3’s and 5 par 4’s and provides a delightful and charming contrast to Rosemount and Lansdowne.
